Lipstick stains can happen during one those intimate times. Unfortunately, lipstick marks on clothes can get finely attached onto the fabric and removing them can be a real challenge. There are times when you might feel like it’s impossible to remove stains. But the good news is that there are, in fact, many ways to get rid of lipstick stains. Read on.
Removing Lipstick Stains from Clothing
Foremost, do not forget to read the label attached in your garment to find out the do’s and don’ts. If you’re doubtful about some instructions, you’re better off bringing the garment to the dry cleaners. Would you ever risk ruining your “very” expensive top? Now if you decide to have the help of the professionals, avoid pre-treating the item. Just let the dry cleaner do the battle for you.
For a DIY project, make sure to test any cleansing product in a small and discreet part of the garment first to avoid making things worse. Lipsticks are an oily substance or wax-based, hence lipstick stains are removed easily and quickly when using the proper techniques.
- Use a clean, absorbent cloth and dab the affected area with rubbing alcohol.
- Gently rub a small amount of dishwashing detergent onto the stain using your finger or a cue-tip.
- Run cold water from the back of the affected site to loosen the stains and to keep stains from setting.
- Saturate the stains using Lestoil and let it stand for 15 minutes.
- Run the garment through a wash cycle.
Other alternative products for removing lipstick stains include:
- Alcohol
- Ammonia
- Baking soda
- Baby Wipes
- Commercial stain removers
- Cornstarch
- Eucalyptus oil
- Mineral oil
- Non-gel toothpaste
- Shaving creams
- Vegetable oil
Lipstick stains can happen on the wrong place at the wrong time. Sometimes, stain can occur accidentally while dining out. In this case, baby wipes can be of great help. Although this will not really make stains completely disappear, it will somehow lighten the marks to save your night from ruin caused by embarrassment.
How to Prevent Lipstick Stains
Take it from the doctors. Prevention is indeed better than cure. If you’re wearing a closed-collar shirt, or anything that needs to be slipped over your head, it makes sense to put on your shirt first before painting your lips red. Once you’re fully dressed, wrap a towel around your neck to shield your top from frustrating accidents.
Although men do not wear lipstick, there will be instances that they’ll end up staining their shirts with lipstick smudges, particularly on collars. Regardless of your gender, you will find the aforementioned tips very helpful. That’s a guarantee!
