With the growth of the internet and the pressure to be more environmentally friendly, many people are now getting rid of their paper bills and it’s easy to see why. Paper bills clutter up the home, fill up the rubbish bin, cause more trees to be used in their production and can cost you money in many ways. Here you will find a few ways to save yourself clutter, money and the environment.

The first thing you can do is to change the regularity of your bank statements and bills and do your banking online. You can also opt out of receiving statements from credit card companies, insurance companies and anyone else you pay your monthly bills to. You can pay for these in a number of other ways.

Instructions (Steps):

Direct Debits
You can set up direct debits so that your monthly bills come direct from your bank account without receiving paper statements every month. This requires good financial control to avoid bank charges and isn’t recommended for those who live from pay-day to pay-day.

Pay on the Website
You can often go the the website of the company you are paying and use your credit or debit card to pay there, usually without any additional cost. This is usually quick and efficient but the downside is that you will be logging into a number of sites if you have a large number of bills to pay.

Online Bill Paying Systems
Several banks and internet companies are offering bill paying services that can make the process quick and easy.

Once these systems are set up your bills will be paid via electronic money transfers. Another major advantage of these systems is that all of your bill payment records are in one place for quick and easy reference.

The Direct Marketer’s Association distribute flyers, catalogues and brochures for over 3,600 companies. You can go over to their website and request to have your name and address removed from their list so you do not receive any mail from them. After requesting removal you will not receive mail from their companies for a three year period, when you may have to request removal again.

Epsilon Abacus Cooperative Mailing List
Similar to the above, Epsilon provide targeted mail advertising. You can go to their website and request removal from their mailing list which should cut the amount of advertising mail you receive.

Flyers and Charities
If you receive brochures, flyers or charity mail you can contact the distributors of the mail or the charity themselves and request your address to be removed from their mailing lists.

Avoid Getting Put on the Lists
You can take steps to avoid being put onto mailing lists. Common ways in which you end up on such lists are via sweepstakes and prize draws, the simple answer is to avoid replying to such mail as companies often sell your address on and the amount of mail you receive multiplies!

Another way is via warranty and buyer registration cards. You do not need to fill in such cards in order to be covered as apart of the warranty. These cards are usually a way for companies to acquire your address and send out mail to.
