Tattoos are once considered to be permanent body statements that reveal your personality and beliefs. But with technological advancement, you can now undo those stains from your body once your interests change. If your relationship fails, for instance, you sure would want to scratch out the name of your ex-lover tattooed somewhere from your body. This article highlights some viable options you can try to undo tattoos out of your body.
Getting Rid of Tattoos
As much as you want to get rid of your tattoo, you should foremost consult your doctor or a dermatologist to determine the best remedy to your dilemma. These medical professionals can always suggest much safer route than some amateur tattoo artists who might employ leeches to suck the stains out. Kidding aside, you need to carefully choose someone who can do the work better than anyone else. Nowadays, there are several options you can explore to help you determine the best method for tattoo removal.
Excision- If you have small tattoo that you want to remove it may be surgically treated by staged excision. As the name implies, the surgeon will cut out the tattoo in one section at a time. However, you need to know that permanent scarring could occur as a result of excision. Also, this technique may not work well on “homemade” tattoos or for tattoos where the ink has been injected deeper into the skin. Larger tattoos may also require skin grafts, or may be surgically removed through tissue expansion. In such technique, a balloon is placed and inflated under the flesh. The skin slowly stretches and is pulled over the excised area until the tattoo is cut out.
Dermabrasion- This involves controlled abrasion of the outer layers of the skin with sandpaper or other mechanical means. Dermabrasion causes the skin to peel away while taking the tattoo with it. Local anesthetic may be required when you opt for this treatment. Make sure you find a certified medical professional to perform the procedure.
Laser Tattoo Removal- Laser breaks or dissolves your tattoo, while the cells in your body will do the rest of the work. While people have tried removing their tattoos using this procedure, it’s worth noting that laser treatment takes several weeks. Moreover, there is no guarantee that laser can completely remove the tattoo and its pigment out of your skin. The success of tattoo removal depends upon the size and age of the tattoo, your immune system, and what pigments were used.
Salabrasion- This method refers to the removal of tattoo using water and granular salt. These substances are used to rub away and peel off the tattoo from the uppermost layer of your skin. Like laser tattoo removal, salabrasion involves several sessions to successfully remove the tattoo. However, this method may not work for deeply injected tattoos.
Before deciding to glam your skin with tattoos for whatever reason, you need to understand the risks and consequences associated with the act. Aside from the potential skin problems, removal of cosmetic tattoos can also cost you an arm and a leg. You may need to come up with at least $1,000 to cover the cost of surgical removal, while the maximum amount can soar as high as something equivalent to buying a new car. If you don’t have that amount, you will certainly regret having body stains forever!
