Removing wax out of the carpet is just as daunting as removing a gum out of the fabric. But when your wax candles have melted all over your precious carpet, do not despair. You must learn these simple tricks to make wax removal a lot easier.
Getting Rid of Hard Wax
You have surely heard of the saying, “There’s no need to cry over spilled milk”. Follow these steps to help you get rid hard wax on your valued carpet.
- Allow the wax to dry before you should begin removing it.
- Scoop up as much of the hard wax as you can, using a spoon or a dull blade. Avoid using a sharp bladed instrument to prevent cutting or damaging the carpet fibers.
- After you have gently scraped out the wax, vacuum the site to remove all the loose bits of wax. Make sure to remove as much wax as you can from the carpet, but do not rub it in.
- To remove stubborn waxes, you will need to run an iron over a piece of clean dry cloth on top of the affected area. The heat will liquefy the wax and allow it to adhere onto the dry cloth.
- Gently lift the cloth. The remaining wax should adhere to the cloth.
- Repeat the procedure if necessary or until the wax is completely removed. Remember to use a fresh, clean area of the dry cloth each time you run iron onto it as you do not want to transfer lifted wax back onto the carpet.
Tip: Make sure to place the iron in low or warm setting so as to prevent the carpet fibers from burning. You can also use a hair drier if you do not have an iron.
Getting Rid of Wax Stains on Carpet
The coloring agent in the wax can cause discoloration on you carpet. If you do have a stain, try using a commercial carpet stain remover or a powdered oxygenated cleaner to treat those unsightly spots on your precious carpet. Just follow the manufacturer’s instructions properly to achieve its maximum effect. You may also want to use isopropyl alcohol to attack the stains. Just allow it to sit for about 30 minutes before scrubbing the stain with it. After treating the stains, rinse the area with warm water and then let dry. If there’s still some grease, you will have to sprinkle some baking soda on the affected site and leave it overnight. Vacuum it up the next morning.
Tip: Different cleaning products will react differently to the different types of fibers. To ensure treatment suitability, test any treatment on an inconspicuous part of the carpet before applying in a visible area.
Be gentle when working on your carpet so as to prevent further damage onto it because of carelessness. Also, there are several products available in the market today that serve as protective agents from many other types of stains on your carpet. Commercial products such as Scotchgard can definitely save you from future hassles.
