It is a terrible thing when something valuable goes missing like your wallet. Sometimes we don’t know what to do because panic hits us, and we are not sure how to handle the situation. Hopefully after you read this, you will be able to find your wallet!

Instructions (Steps):

If you just found out you have lost your wallet, the first step is Breathe. Take a deep breath. Clear your mind. If you find yourself having a panic attack, sit down. Drink some water. Freaking out will not help anyone in this situation. Breathe deep a few times, or until you feel a bit more relaxed again. Focus on clearing your mind. Once your mind is cleared, and you feel at ease, start thinking about what you did that day. Write everything down. If you can remember the directions, write those down as well.

When you are finished, stand up, and look around you. Bend up, and down in odd places. Look behind rocks, and things that might match the wallet. Sometimes it might be blending in with something. Take what you just wrote, and see if you can find a way to visit those places, and re-track your steps. When you are re-tracking your steps call up a couple of friends, and see if they can help you. Wear bright clothes so people will see you. If you are searching at night, take a flashlight. When you retrace your steps do the same thing that you did before you left that place you just where in. Look in odd places.

After you have finished, and you didn’t find anything go home, and start typing up lost ads. Put ads around your neighborhood, online, and the local newspaper. Consider offering an award. Talk with your friends that you hung out with that day. Ask them if they remembered seeing anything. After you have finished doing ads, look in the found section online. See if someone has already found it, and maybe posted it online. Don’t forget to check local churches, and shopping centers in that area. Leave your number, and name for them to contact you.

When you are finished searching, contact the local police station. Let them know that your wallet is missing, and see if anyone has reported it. Make sure that you tell them the date it went missing, size, and color. Let them know if you had any money, or credit cards in it. Stay cool when you contact the police, and don’t get angry with them.

If you have credit cards, phone numbers, or other personal items in there contact the local credit card company and see if someone has used it, and when. If no one has used it, consider freezing the account until your wallet has been found. If someone has used it, contact the location, and see if they have a local camera, and can get a look at the person. If that is the case that means it was stolen, and you will need to call the police again. If you have personal numbers in your wallet, call those numbers, and ask them if anyone strange has called them in the past hour. Tell them what is going on so they can be informed.

Tips & Warnings:

  • If you are searching at night don’t go into places that you are unfamiliar with. Wait until daytime, and start back up again.
  • Never get into a strangers car if they want you to see if your wallet might be located in their car.
